Please be aware, we have rescheduled the build for Tuesday March 16 at 11 a.m. Interested parties can just show up, but calling to reserve a spot is definitely a good idea! Those unable to attend the build with mastermind Wolf, can book throughout the week to build one with George. Too much fun!

March Break… what to do? Why, join us at MMMusicworks for “Ukulele Week,” of course!

Here’s the skinny. Allow me to introduce our friend and fine instrument maker Wolfie - www.wolfkater.com. We’re bringing the Wolf to Almonte, armed and dangerous with a mitfull of his cool ukulele kits. It all begins on Monday, March 15th. Wolf will be on hand demonstrating the build, the simplest of which may be completed in about an hour and a half. For finer results, students may wish to take a little more time with sanding and attention to detail. On Tuesday through Saturday, several of our staff will be on hand: Dave Brown’s skills and knowledge will benefit students wishing to create a professional finish. Roger Plant and George Turcotte will be available for instruction on playing the instruments. Students are encouraged to work up songs as solos, duos, trios, what have you - all on ukulele of course.

On Saturday, March 20th , there will, of course, be a show!

Oh, and PRIZES! Prizes will be given for best solo performance, best group performance, and of course, best ukulele in your age bracket.

Ken Harper layin' it down

We would like to welcome Ken Harper to our roster of music teachers

Not only is he proficienty with Celtic material, he has also studied jazz at Humber, played across Canada with Garden Bros Circus (a tightrope kind of a gig for a musician….improv all the way) and basked in the presence of the late great Oscar Peterson. He holds a BFA in jazz studies from York University. Whether you’re interested in rudiments, kit, jazz or a little traditional drumming - Ken has lots to offer.

Team MMMusicworks grows stronger still with the addition of Roger Plant. Welcome Roger! Roger is a very talented guitarist on both acoustic and electric. A veritable musical encyclopedia, his styles range as far and wide as his taste; his roots are in the blues, jazz, folk and rock. A funny and personable fellow, Roger brings something unique to the table while conforming to the mission of all our teachers: our mandate? To inspire! Well that was a lot of fun! Congratulations to Elizabeth and Nathan for cleverly putting the clues together and unearthing the Hidden Treasure! And so cool to have found it while the store was packed with well-wishers as we embark upon our 3rd year in business! Honourable mentions go to Brianna MacSpurren, Clint & AJ Shewchuck and Madeleine Poirier for there tenacious efforts and insight into some archaic clues… the Walrus is Paul, guys! And there he was (and still is) with his finger pointing right at the prize… so. It’s now Sunday, our first Sunday open for Christmas and it’s quiet… so I guess I’ll hide another one… Here’s your first clue: Živojinović ! Long Live the Treasure Hunt!

We’re gonna have a good time

…because it’s our birthday!! Musicworks turns 2 today and to celebrate we’re throwing a party this Saturday, December 5th. Candles (all 2 of ‘em) are set ablaze at 2 pm and there will be cake for everyone who comes out to sing to us. Then the live music starts and doesn’t stop until we close - teachers and students alike will play their seasonal favourites or whatever else springs to their fingers. Add to the festivities the SALE prices that appear at 10 am Saturday morning and you could spend a whole day here - playing, singing, eating cake not to mention getting your Christmas shopping done (we’ve got something for everyone!).

Oskar Graf has been building guitars for more than 30 years and he’s bringing some of them to Musicworks this Friday. He’ll chat about what goes into his beauties, Terry Tufts and our fearless leader, George Turcotte will play them for you, and if you promise to wash your hands first, you can try them too. Stephen Bennett comes to Almonte

For those of you who are unaware of this fingerstyle colossus, it is our great pleasure to introduce you. Hailed as the Jedi Master of fingerstyle guitar, Stephen joins us for a Master Class on Monday, November 16th @ 7:00 p.m., in our piano showroom. As seen in The Humm, we’re having a bit of a Treasure Hunt here at MMMusicworks. It seems Treebeard received a $100 gift certificate for his 33,001st birthday, and well, lately he’s been, um, forgetting things… Follow the clues on the website and in The Humm and help him find it. If you do, you’ll ease his worried mind and he’ll be almost as happy as he was before Wandlimb & the Entwives forsook the forest for more fertile ground. So happy will Treebeard be, he’ll let you keep it for your own!
